"The Cloud is Mightier than the Pen."

Attempting gamification on a developer tool

Codex is a Developer Tool that facilitates the collection and organization of data in a fun and rewarding way. My main focus on the project was to take a UX hammer to it and beat some fun, intuitive and satisfying features to an otherwise dull and tedious tool. I was also responsible for designing the Codex site, which also includes an interactive demo.

Sample Process

Wireframes

I take great joy in creating a friendship between a person and an app/tool. There's nothing worse than interacting with a confusing and overwhelming new thing. During my process, I start with sketches or white-boarding to get the ball rolling between the designer and I, identifying the user behavior we want to drive. I then wireframe and begin outlining major behaviors a person would delight in interacting with.

Prototyping, Testing and Behavior Evaluation

I believe that after wireframing should come a prototype - it's never too soon to start testing. It's best to get eyes and hands on a feature early and work from there. Because we never know how users will react, and expectations are unreliable, the sooner we test, the better the results are and the more knowledgeable we are in improving the user experience.

Visual and Creative Communication

I enjoy working closely with UI Designers and UI artists so that the UX foundation remains intact while they work their magic! It's always exciting to see a feature come together! At times, due to time constraints and scheduling, having started as a UI Designer/Artist myself, I'm flexible and willing to hop in and help out with art asset creation, layout, and implementation in to Unity.
